More than a dozen people were taken to hospital following a bus crash on Highway 99 in Richmond Sunday night.

More than a dozen people were taken to hospital following a bus crash on Highway 99 in Richmond Sunday night.

A Coast Mountain bus on the 351 Bridgeport route, carrying 30 passengers, crashed into the median on the highway near Cambie Road at around 9:30, confirmed a spokesman for TransLink.

TransLink's Drew Snider said 14 people were taken to hospital, and several others were treated at the scene for various injuries.

He said he didn't know the severity of any of the injuries, or how many people in total were injured.

"The bus wound up on the median," Snider said, adding that the driver of the bus may have been trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle on the highway.

Snider said he hadn't yet spoken to the bus driver.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident, he added.
