Craziness ensues to get donut fix

The line-ups have been nuts at Krispy Kreme on Scott Road in Delta

Okay, I had to see what all the craziness was about.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early March, the Krispy Kreme donut shop on Scott Road in North Delta has been a cultural phenomenon.

With its doors shut to its eat-in restaurant, donut seekers have taken to the drive-thru with lines of cars snaking through the mall parking lot. At times there have been 60 or 70 cars in the line-up.

Crazy!

In the beginning, there were rumours on local social media groups, that they were giving away rolls of toilet paper with their boxes of donuts. I was never able to confirm that as every time I drove by I didn’t have the time to spend two hours in line.

But recently I finally made the commitment.

So on Sunday morning – at 11 a.m. – I got in line. Ninety minutes later, I had two boxes – a dozen of their famous glazed and a dozen of their assorted donuts in my hands.

My family was thrilled, including my niece Payton and nephew Declan who could hardly contain their excitement when I walked in the door.

“I recognize those boxes – do you have donuts Uncle Ian,” Payton exclaimed as Declan rushed me to open up the box.

Seeing the smiles on their little faces was all worth it.

Plus, who am I kidding…I love Krispy Kreme too.

Donut fix satisfied!
