New Westminster police are praising some apartment building residents for being “vigilant,” but it’s hard not to be when you see your own stuff being rifled through by a thief.

On Aug. 3, members of the New Westminster Police Department arrested a male for breaking into the storage lockers inside an apartment building in the 100 block of 2nd Street.  Residents had walked into the laundry room and saw a man they didn’t know going through items in the building’s storage lockers.

“One of the residents observed some of their belongings that were kept in their locker now on the floor near this unknown male,” read a news release. “The resident manager was alerted and approached the male, who was now outside of the apartment and wrapping a pair of bolt cutters with a towel. The manager recognized that they were, in fact, his bolt cutters.”

A 43-year-old male was arrested and held for a bail hearing.
