VIDEO: Young Coquitlam actors explore the minds of their peers to raise mental health awareness

‘The Honey Files’ dives into day-to-day challenges in hopes of continuing the conversation.

By youth, for youth and the benefit of everyone’s understanding.

Aspiring young actors have provided a glimpse into the minds of every-day young people through a series of short films in order to raise awareness and create opportunities to speak up for those struggling with mental health.

Place des Arts’ Coquitlam Youth Theatre (CYT) has released The Honey Files on its website and YouTube page showcasing the work of its performers, shining a specific spotlight on youth mental health.

The timeliness of the videos comes as Tri-City school calendars begin to wrap up their first year of education through the COVID-19 pandemic, which has undoubtedly caused various strains for children.

The ultimate goal of The Honey Files is to encourage them to reach out for support.

As part of the 2020-21 season’s assignment, CYT students aged 10 to 17 developed, wrote and performed monologues that take the viewer through the mind of a typical young person's day-to-day life.

Topics include peer-to-peer support, technology use and the effects unleashed by mental health struggles both emotionally and physically.

You can view the films in the videos posted below.

Place des Arts explains registered clinical counsellors Joanna Boyd and Chris Boyd also provided professional expertise for the films.

They also put together a youth-focused resource list with contact information that you’re encouraged to check out on Place des Arts’ website.
