Five down, five to go.

Coquitlam city staff are set to begin several park projects and upgrades in the weeks ahead that will give local residents and visitors better experiences when it comes to outdoor recreation and living.

In an update today (Aug. 4) sent to the Tri-City News, the city said crews will begin construction at five popular parks after recently completing five others for a total of 10 new upgrades by winter.

"These projects are just a few that fall under Coquitlam’s Capital Plan, which includes major recreation, facility and outdoor space projects to meet the community’s current and future needs," explained parks manager Kathleen Reinheimer.

"City staff are continually working to enhance processes to deliver value, while minimizing disruption to the community."

Reinheimer said the projects are being financially supported through the city's five-year capital plan (2022-2026).

She added it's important for the city to continue meeting the community's expectations, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, extreme weather, supply chain issue and increasing construction costs.
