An investigation is ongoing into the cause of a multi-vehicle collision in Coquitlam this past weekend.

One of the drivers suffered minor injuries from the three-vehicle incident early Sunday morning (Sept. 18), RCMP confirmed to the Tri-City News.

Another fled on foot, but was ultimately found.

The collision took place around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Mariner Way and Dolphin Street.

Spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said the crash involved three grey-coloured vehicles: a Toyota Rav4, a Chevrolet Cruze and a Mazda 3.

She added the driver of the Mazda 3 that fled on foot was found "a short time later" and was identified by officers on site.

A witness that claimed to be first on the scene told the Tri-City News the Mazda 3 allegedly sped down Mariner Way before the collision.

Now, police are turning to the public in hopes of obtaining statements and dashcam footage to figure out what caused the incident.

Anyone with more information or video footage of the collision is encouraged to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file-number 2022-24723.

According to ICBC, 22 crashes were reported from Mariner Way and Dolphin Street between 2017 and 2021 that resulted in injury or fatality.

As well, nearly 190 collisions were recorded along Mariner Way in the same span between Windward Drive and Dewdney Trunk Road.
