As Ukraine continues to deal with the continued invasion of Russia, Tri-City residents have pulled together to raise funds and relief for the eastern European nation.

A group of Port Coquitlam seniors are among the latest to pitch in, and the donation was as sweet as their selflessness.

Residents at the Astoria Retirement community hosted a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale and in just two hours, amassed a total of $535 for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

The by-donation fundraiser was conducted by Astoria resident engagement manager Gabriela Otoya on behalf of more than 140 seniors living at the Tri-City facility.

The Astoria Retirement Residence in Port Coquitlam is located at 2245 Kelly Ave.

The appeal is organized by the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF) and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.

It works with Ukrainian government ministries and ensures donations that come in meet the immediate needs of displaced citizens.

According to its website, the CUF and other governing bodies reach 25,000 Internally Displaced Persons each week, as well as 50,000 vulnerable residents in cities and towns "recently liberated by the Ukrainian army from Russian occupation."
