Heaven on Earth for local beer-lovers comes in the form of Brewhalla, and will descend on Port Moody this week.

Red Door Events Inc. is set to host its annual travelling beer and music festival in Inlet Park on Saturday (Aug. 6) as part of an expansion to the Tri-Cities in addition to its mainstay in Fort Langley.

Patrons — which must be 19 years of age or older — are set to be treated to more than 60 craft pints from local breweries, as well as local live performing musicians that spokesperson Lies Reimer hopes can build community and support local charities.

"Our new Brewhalla Beer and Music festival series will do just that in even more communities throughout B.C.," Reimer adds, noting the event also encourages diversity, inclusion and sustainability.

As well, there will be 26 vendor tents and several food trucks to compliment the beer on site.

Brewhalla's move to Inlet Park was in response to some worries from local residents about the outdoor event's impact on the healing garden and tree canopy.

As well, it's now a six-hour one-day showcase instead of a two-day outing as Inlet Park provided larger space for organizers to host up to 1,100 people.

Brewhalla is located a short walk from the Inlet SkyTrain station and its proximity to the densely-populated neighbourhoods at NewPort Village and Suter Brook make it ideal for programming, said Port Moody's cultural services manager Devin Jain in a June meeting.

"It also provides an alternative to Rocky Point Park for events, allowing for a wider variety of events in the community as well as some revenue for ticketed events," he added.

The festival takes place from 12 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
