New Westminster mystery author Winona Kent has just released her 10th book, Ticket to Ride.

A New Westminster mystery author is celebrating a double-digit milestone this month after releasing her 10th book.

Ticket to Ride is the fourth instalment in the Jason Davey mystery series by local author Winona Kent.

In the previous novel, Lost Time, professional musician/amateur sleuth Jason Davey was rehearsing to go on tour with his mother’s folk-pop band, Figgis Green, on their 50th anniversary tour of England.

Now the band is on the road. But after a fortuneteller in Sheffield warns them of impending danger, the band is suddenly plagued by a series of seemingly unrelated mishaps – until it becomes clear they're being targeted by someone with a serious grudge.

“Jason must rely on his instincts, his Instagram ‘guardian angel,’ and a wartime ghost who might possibly share his DNA, in order to survive,” Kent writes in a synopsis of the novel.

For some added fun this time out, Kent and her publisher, Brian Richmond of Blue Devil books, have set up a “tour website” for the band that includes set lists, band member bios, a tour itinerary and Jason’s Instagram feed – plus, of course, links to places to buy the book.

At the same time, Kent also has a short story coming out in the new anthology Women of a Certain Age from Sisters in Crime – Canada West. The story, Terminal Lucidity, began when Kent started writing at her mother’s bedside at a hospice in North Vancouver; her mother passed away, age 95, last May. That anthology will be out in October.

Previous outings in Kent’s Jason Davey series include the novella Disturbing the Peace and the novel Notes on a Missing G-String.

Kent is also the author of the spy novel Skywatcher, a finalist in the Seal Books First Novel Competition after its publication in 1989, and a trio of time-travel romances.

Kent was born in London, England and grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan.

She has a master’s degree in creative writing from UBC and a diploma in writing for film and TV from Vancouver Film School.

Kent is the current B.C./Yukon/Northwest Territory representative for the Crime Writers of Canada and is also an active member of Sisters in Crime.
