A snowfall warning is in effect for Richmond and across Metro Vancouver this long weekend before temperatures begin to warm up later this week.

According to Environment Canada, a “second winter storm” is here and an additional 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected.

“On the heels of a snow-producing storm on Saturday, a Pacific frontal system has arrived on the south coast this morning, spreading snow to the Metro Vancouver region,” said the weather agency in the statement, adding that snow mixed with rain is expected later this afternoon in some areas, while areas inland and in the path of the Fraser Valley outflow winds may expect snow to continue through Monday.

Snowfall warning is in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
  • Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta

Those who are outside should be careful of highways, roads, walkways and parking lots as accumulating snow will make it difficult to travel on.

Richmond will see a 40 per cent chance of showers on Monday evening and will continue through to Tuesday evening before the sky clear.

A mix of sun and cloud is forecasted to make an appearance on Wednesday with a high of 6C and clouds are expected roll in by nightfall with a low of 1C.

Rain is expected Thursday through Saturday with a high of 7C and a low of 2C.
