Looking for a way to help and support Lytton wildfire evacuees?

The Ladner Baptist Church has been secured as a drop-off location here in South Delta starting today (Friday, July 2) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations will also be accepted on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, July 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Suggested donations include: livestock food, toiletries, dust masks, water, propane stoves, sleeping bags, flashlights, batteries, can openers, utensils, new socks and underwear.

Other useful items include gift cards to grocery stores, such as Walmart. Cash donations can be made to the food bank, Red Cross and Salvation Army.

“We all saw what was going on and I know how much people like to give and donate in South Delta,” said Kathy Mawhorter, who posted information about the donations and drop-off location in the Ladner’s Landing Facebook page Thursday afternoon. “My husband used to be the lead pastor at Ladner Baptist, and I thought that [the church] is a nice central location, so I reached out to the current pastor and asked them if it would be possible to be a drop-off point.

“I also joined the BC Wildfire Support Facebook page, so we have set off the drop-off times and this support group has a person who will come and pick up the items. They didn’t have a spot secured in our area, so I just thought, people in South Delta love to give and I just decided we could make this happen.”

Ladner Baptist Church is located at 5624 Ladner Trunk Road.
