City of Richmond fitness centres will be reopening this week. Group fitness classes will also resume.

The City of Richmond will be reopening its fitness centres and restarting group fitness classes on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced on Tuesday that gyms would be allowed to “cautiously reopen” with capacity limits and physical distancing in place, after having been closed since December due to the Omicron variant.

As of Thursday, Richmondites will be able to drop-in to the city’s fitness facilities.

Social distancing measures will be in place, which will limit the number of people who can be in the fitness areas at any given time.

Group fitness classes will also return starting Thursday, with full restoration by Monday, Jan. 24.

Pre-registration will be required for these classes, which will also have social distancing and capacity limits.

Proof of vaccination and a government-issued photo ID must still be shown and scanned to be able to access most programs, including fitness, sports and adult recreational classes.

Masks must be worn in all public areas and people are encouraged to wear masks while exercising.
