Icelandic ultra-low-cost carrier WOW Air announced October 22 that it is launching non-stop flights between Reykjavik and Vancouver starting in June 2019.

It plans to fly six times per week out of Vancouver International Airport with one-way fares as low as $129. Canadians may purchase tickets for those flights now, the airline said in a release.

One-way flights between Vancouver and various European destinations, such as Amsterdam, Stockholm and Paris on WOW are $199 and would include a stopover in Reykjavik.

Those promotional rates are for travel between June and September and it is not clear what regular-priced fares will be.

“We are delighted to expand our roster of destinations to include Canada’s west coast,” said Skúli Mogensen, CEO and founder of WOW Air in a release.

“The new route in Vancouver is a testament to our commitment to pursue growth in North America, as well as connect more Canadian travellers to our growing list of overseas destinations.” Vancouver Airport Authority CEO Craig Richmond said that WOW Air’s arrival will help his airport reach his goal of 29 million passengers by 2020.

WOW Air’s arrival means Vancouver International Airport will have service from 57 airlines, according to Richmond.
