Celebrate Star Wars at one of these ‘May the 4th’ events in Richmond and beyond

May the fourth, or the force, be with you this Saturday as events are popping up all over Metro Vancouver to celebrate the beloved Star Wars movies.

In Richmond, Star Wars enthusiasts can catch a free screening of The Last Jedi at City Centre Community Centre. The movie starts at 6:30 p.m. and is for all ages. Refreshments will be provided.

Families that are keen to head into Vancouver can join the May the Fourth be With You celebration at the H.R. MacMillon Centre from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Costumes are encouraged at this Star Wars themed event, and visitors will have a chance to make a glowing light saber and participate in games and activities. Of course, the observatory will be open to view galaxies far, far away. Tickets are $15 for those 18 and under and $20 for adults.

Also in Vancouver on Saturday, at the Vancouver Public Library’s central branch, several events geared towards kids is planned from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The day’s activities are free and encourage participants to “feel the power of the Force.”

For the adults, check out Astoria’s Star Wars instalment of their Galaxion 80s night. The sci-fi festivities will include Star Wars visuals, retro games all set to sci-fi and space games and prizes for best Star Wars costumes. Cover is $25 and the event runs from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Back in Richmond, the Rotaract Club is keeping the Star Wars celebrations going with a “May the 24th Be With You” fundraiser, aiming to raise funds for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter. Costumes are encouraged at this event as well and a sit down dinner will be served with a side of Star Wars themed trivia. The May 24th event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ginger Indian Cuisine and tickets, which are $30, are on sale now.
