A 12-year-old child has died after a skiing accident at Mt. Seymour this weekend.

Around 8 p.m. last night (Saturday, April 10) emergency services were called to Mt. Seymour after reports of a child injured in a serious skiing accident, according to a press release from North Vancouver RCMP Sgt. Peter DeVries.

In a statement to Glacier Media Mt Seymour provided more details and offered condolences to those connected with the boy.

"On the evening of April 10, a 12-year-old boy was severely injured after colliding with a tree on the side of a ski run and later succumbed to his injuries," reads the statement. "Everyone at Mt Seymour extends our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends for this tragic loss."

Emergency medical crew tried to save the boy's life, but weren't succesful.

"Paramedics subsequently transported the child to BC Children’s Hospital where, tragically, the child was pronounced deceased," state the RCMP in their press release.

The B.C. Coroners Service has taken over the investigation into the accident.

"Our thoughts and hearts remain with the family through this tragedy," writes DeVries in the release.

Correction--Initially the RCMP stated the age of the child was 11, but have issued a correction stating the child was 12. This story has been updated to reflect that.
