Helicopter drops water on burning CN Rail locomotive

Fire stops train 30 kilometres east of Chetwynd

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the incident.

CN Rail turned to some help from above to douse a fire that broke out in a locomotive east of Chetwynd on Wednesday.

"The impacted locomotive was pulled away from the rest of the train and the fire was suppressed using water dropped by helicopter," a company spokesperson said in an e-mail sent out shortly before 3 p.m.

No injuries were reported, the locomotive has been secured and crews and environmental specialists are on their way to the spot, about 30 kilometres west of the community, the spokesperson said.

Cause of the incident is under investigation.
