Dr. Lyren Chiu is an award-winning health care educator who has dedicated her career to researching, teaching, and promoting compassionate health care.

Born in Taiwan, Chiu immigrated to Canada in 1999. She was a Harvard University post-doctorate and a nursing professor in B.C.

She is a strong advocate for multicultural communities and a founding director of the Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Colleges of Canada, A Coalition Against Bill C51, and Canadian Research Institute of Spirituality and Healing.

Chiu has received numerous awards, including Outstanding Woman of Canada from the United Global Chinese Women’s Association of Canada.

She was recognized as both a “visionary” by Vancouver Women’s Magazine, and a “change agent” by the Diasporas Project, led by SFU, for her work in educating Canadian society about the values and practices of integrated healing.

Chiu believes the Liberal government under Christy Clark has neglected B.C.’s health care and education needs, while granting tax breaks to wealthy friends and raising MSP fees for everyone else.

Chiu is standing with NDP leader John Horgan and would like to improve health care and eliminate MSP premiums.

She would also like increased support for post-secondary education.
