Fringe candidates emerge in Richmond

Both Lawrence Chen and John Crocock, former B.C. Conservatives, have formed new parties

Two candidates from fringe, lone-candidate parties have emerged in Richmond.

In Richmond North Centre, voters may choose to elect John Crocock, the only candidate for the BC Action Party, as of April 12. In 2005, Crocock made a bid to become a Conservative Party of Canada candidate but lost to Alice Wong. He was also a former provincial B.C. Conservative Party member, who was expelled in a controversial move by former leader John Cummins, in 2012.

Meanwhile, in Richmond-Queensborough, one may tick Lawrence Chen’s box, for the New Republican Party. Chen is also the party’s only candidate, to date. Chen ran in the last provincial election as a B.C. Conservative.
