A fundraising piano concert taking place at Gateway Theatre this Saturday aims to raise $7,000 for the Richmond Hospital Foundation.

The pianist is a Grade 12 student from Burnaby High, Ranfei Wang, whose mom works at Richmond Hospital.

“I hope to make a contribution to the community with the skills I have, which is playing the piano. And I think raising funds for my mum’s work place is a great thing to do,” said Wang.

Wang has been practicing piano since he was seven years old and has won numerous piano competitions nationally and worldwide.

He is now the president of the Vancouver Young Pianist Club and is a signatory youth pianist in the Global Outstanding Chinese Artists Association.

Wang said he will play a number of classic piano piece selections from musicians such as Bach, Beethoven and Liszt during the two-hour concert.

“I hope the audience will enjoy the music. They will be giving back to the community at the same time,” said Wang.

“I also hope that, by doing this, I can inspire more youths to do great things for society. That will be awesome.”

The Ranfei Wang Charity Piano Concert will be held at the Gateway Theatre at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. Tickets are $20 each.

Wang’s parents have sponsored the venue and all proceeds from the concert will go towards the Richmond Hospital Foundation.
