A Steveston business’ Wizard of Oz scarecrows followed the yellow brick road to the first prize in this year’s 11th annual Steveston Scarecrow Crawl
Every year, merchants in Steveston are encouraged to build their own scarecrows and join the Steveston Scarecrow Crawl competition as a way to promote their businesses and win cash prizes.
Despite COVID-19, 25 businesses
Laaras Vacuums’ Wizard of Oz scarecrow group plus an additional scarecrow with Dr. Bonnie Henry’s face taped to its face took home the grand prize of $1,000 in this year’s competition.
While around 50 merchants normally join the competition, 25 joined in this year’s scarecrow battle despite COVID-19.
Placing second was A Monkey Tree’s kind bee scarecrow, while Pierside Deli’s upside down scarecrow and Splash Toy Shop’s “where the wild things are” monster scarecrow tied for third place.
