Walk Britannia’s Docks: Aug. 17 & 18 (noon – 4 p.m.)

A visit to Steveston wouldn’t be complete without exploring the boardwalks and vessels of Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site.

This weekend, entry to the site will be free.Visitors can check out some of the boats, meet their owners, and view some live demonstrations of maritime activities, such as net-mending and carpentry.

Best on the Block BBQ rib cook-off: Aug. 17 (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

Making its third annual appearance, the perfect-for-carnivores tailgate-style party features a competition between chefs from Harold’s, Cavu and 75 West Coast Grill, each trying for the title of best, juiciest ribs in Richmond.

Visitors can try samples from each of the restaurants and enjoy craft brews from around B.C., including the city’s own Fuggles and Warlock. There will also be a dunk tank and live music.

It will cost $15 for 1/4 rack of ribs from the three restaurants, and $5 for three beer tasters. Parking is free of charge.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable donation for the Richmond Food Bank Society, which is hosting the event, to earn a free throw at the dunk tank.

Pop-up record shop: Aug. 17 (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

3DawgsVinyl is hosting a vinyl pop-up shop at Fuggles and Warlock this Saturday, where guests can dig through crates of new and used records to score some sweet new tunes, all while enjoying some local Richmond brews.

For the eleventh year in a row, Richmondites can celebrate the world of garlic at Richmond’s Sharing Farm.
