Does your kid like running or practicing martial arts, or both?

Come and join the Ninja Warrior 5K Charity Run/Walk on Aug. 26 in Richmond and raise funds for BC Children's Hospital.

Different from regular walk/run, this event requires children to complete a martial arts technique every kilometre they run.

Someone will be standing at each spot to tell them what to do - whether it's 10 front kicks or a board break.

Anyone who donates on-site to BC Children’s Hospital or presents proof of a previous donation can take part in the event, according to Johnny Ahmed, run organizer and owner of Richmond Martial Arts.

“I run marathons a lot myself,” said Ahmed.

"When I told a coach I wanted to do a run to inspire kids to help the community, he said, ‘everyone does that, why don’t you add martial arts to it?’

"I thought it was a great idea to make it more unique and more fun."

Ahmed said he came up with the format after being inspired by Ninja Turtle movies, in which characters “climb walls and jump.”

The Ninja Warrior 5K Charity Run/Walk will start at the parking lot of Richmond Martial Arts at 150-11780 Hammersmith Way at 9 a.m.
