Learn more about healthy aging and food security at a free seniors’ wellness event this Thursday, Aug. 2 at the West Richmond Community Centre.

Presented by Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG), this is the seventh Summer WHAM (Wellness, Health and More) and will feature nearly 20 information booths, including Chimo Community Services, Minoru Seniors Society and the Richmond Public Library.

This year’s theme is food security and attendees will have a chance to purchase products from local vendors after the event.

“For seniors, accessing nutritious food on a regular basis can be a challenge, due to lack of mobility and other issues,” says Carol Dickson, manager of RCRG’s senior community support services.

“We wanted to highlight food security because it’s so closely linked to the long-term health and independence of older adults.”

Doors open at 12:30 with the formal program running from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The event will also include refreshments and a prize draw. Registration is required at Richmond.ca/Register or call 604-276-4300.
