Richmond Public Library to celebrate Canadian Library Month

October is Canadian Library Month and, in celebration, the Richmond Public Library is hosting an author events series starting next week. Over six free events, between Oct. 2 and Oct. 30, a collection of authors will share excerpts and expertise.

October is Canadian Library Month and, in celebration, the Richmond Public Library is hosting an author events series starting next week.

Over six free events, between Oct. 2 and Oct. 30, a collection of authors will share excerpts and expertise.

Tuesday, Oct. 2

6 to 7:30 p.m.

Co-authors Amy Yiu, Jo Jo Wang and Mengdi Xia will talk about their bilingual cookbook, Dieticians at Home, and share their favourite fall recipes.

Wednesday, Oct. 3

4 to 5 p.m.

James McCann will talk about his book, Welcome to Writing Your Novel Dungeons and Dragons Style, highlighting how he and other contemporary writers have been influenced by the popular game.

Saturday, Oct. 13

2:30 to 4 p.m.

Jessie Sutherland will tackle big issues and discuss skills to address diverse social issues such as poverty, the opioid crisis and affordable housing in her discussion about Worldview Skills: Transforming Conflict from the Inside Out.

Thursday, Oct. 25

7 to 8:30 p.m.

Two authors will share their books on Oct. 25. Julia Lin will read excerpts from Miah and Shadows of the Crimson Sun, which highlight stories of Taiwanese-Canadians and their immigrant experiences. Francis Pring-Mill will then speak about his book on the Tao Te Ching titled In Harmony with the Tao: A Guided Journey on the Tao Te Ching.

Saturday, Oct. 27

2:30 to 4 p.m.

Nathaneal Lauster will share his research on single family housing in The Death and Life of the Single-Family House: Lessons from Vancouver on Building a Livable City.

Tuesday, Oct. 30

7 to 8:30 p.m.

At the final event, Jim Tanaka will talk about his anthology of stories discussing the enduring bonds of family, community and culture of Japanese-Canadian fishermen in Changing Tide: Vanishing Voices of Nikkei Fishermen and Their Families.
