A Richmond man who won a $1 million prize through Lotto 6/49 on Saturday said he and his family are going to use the money to travel.

“We’re not very materialistic,” said Peter Mitford. “My family loves traveling, so in the immediate future that’s what we’re going to do.”

He bought the winning ticket from a convenience store near Williams Road and Shell Road, and discovered he was a lucky winner while at home on the couch checking the draw results on his tablet.

“It was a very exciting and happy time for us,” he said. “It really gives us a few more options, and the ability to help our kids out.”

Mitford has been playing Lotto 6/49 for 20 years, and said he always keeps in mind that somebody has to win.
