The Richmond Gogos is hosting an incredible afternoon of “sweet” music this Saturday afternoon.

From 3 p.m. on Nov. 17, the VOC Sweet Soul Gospel Choir, with music director Checo Tohomaso, will perform at Gilmore Park United Church, with the coffee bar opening at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are $22 (adults), $10 (children). Call 604-270-1039.

The Richmond-based Gogos chapter is one of close to 250 across Canada that participates in the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign in the 15 sub-Saharan African countries most afflicted by AIDS.

Their job is to empower older, African women, grandmothers who are referred to as “Gogos” in Zulu culture, who are raising their grandchildren because the parents — their adult children — have died of AIDS.
