A Richmondite has unearthed a little treasure from the city’s sporting past that was in such good condition, he didn’t want to throw it out.
Earl Clapp – a retired policeman who now goes dumpster-diving daily to donate items to charity – has found a glossy brochure profiling a once famous four-man softball team, which used to tour the continent and beyond.
The team, called the King and his Court, as part of their tour, used to play Steveston Community Park, as far as Clapp can recall.
He said he couldn’t believe how pristine the publication was, considering it was printed in 1998.
“I was thinking there must be an organization in Steveston or a baseball organization that would be interested in it,” said Clapp, who used to play softball at the Steveston park in the ‘80s.
“They made quite a few appearances in Richmond in those days. There is likely a good home for something like this.
“I find such a wide variety of things, but this was in such great condition I didn’t want to just throw it out.”
Clapp said there’s a ton of information inside the publication, adding it would be a “shame for it to go to waste.”
