If you had movie plans at Richmond’s SilverCity Riverport Cinema this week, those plans will have to change.

Cineplex theatres in Richmond and across the province have temporarily closed after B.C.’s health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced new pandemic restrictions Monday afternoon.

This will be the second time this year the local theatre has closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The first time was in mid-March when the movie giant was forced to close all 164 of its locations across Canada under government orders.

Guests are asked to reach out to Cineplex’s guest services for a full refund for tickets to upcoming show times, said a Cineplex spokesperson.

To alleviate the financial impact of COVID-19, the movie giant recently launched Private Movie Nights – a new private screening promotion – across Canada.

The deal included a private auditorium for up to 20 guests and the choice of over 1,000 films for a starting price of $125.
