A Richmond-based society is celebrating World Autism Awareness Day by engaging autistic voices in the community this year.

AutismBC is a non-profit and registered charity that provides support for people on the autism spectrum and is joining the world in raising awareness of the developmental disorder on April 2.

According to AutismBC’s Facebook, their theme this year is “amplifying autistic voices” where they provide a “platform for autistic individuals to share their messages, talents, feelings and experiences.

“We also want to enhance the diversity of experiences and perspectives shared, open up learning opportunities and increase representation,” said the post.

AutismBC was founded in 1975 and is a founding member of the Provincial and Territorial Council of Autism Canada with branch offices in the Interior, Northern B.C. and on Vancouver Island.
