Richmond Public Library Board chair Simon Tang said budget contraints meant hours needed to be cut somewhere across the network.

Richmond’s popular “Learning Together” program is launching once again this week.

The family literacy program, run by the Richmond Public Library at the Ironwood and Cambie branches is geared towards parents and caregivers looking to connect with preschoolers as they develop early literacy skills.

Children ages three to five years old will learn to develop a love of stories and reading while being exposed to digital media, physical activities and learning the alphabet and numbers.

“The Learning Together Program helped (my daughter) a lot to have interest in reading books,” said Ruth in a press release, who is a parent of two children that attended the program.

“Because of that, my other girl who has special needs was really interested too.”

The program runs on Wednesdays from Sept. 19 to Nov. 7 at the Ironwood branch and on Thursdays from Sept. 20 to Nov. 8 at the Cambie branch. Both programs run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Both the Ironwood and Cambie branch have a few spots available, currenlty and names may be accepted on a waitlist after.
