Sun Life Financial believes in making lives brighter. And thanks to the efforts of their Burnaby Metro Vancouver Financial Centre, lives will also be healthier.   “We are in this business to help people achieve financial security. But you need good health as well as good financial security,” says Adrian Fung, a Sun Life Financial Sales Manager, Burnaby Metro Vancouver Financial Centre, which was recently a major sponsor of Richmond Hospital’s Golf Tournament.

For Fung, a Richmond resident, the importance of having great local health care is something he has experienced personally. In 2008 he went to Richmond Hospital’s Emergency Department experiencing pain. After a few tests, Fung was told he needed to have his gall bladder removed and a few days later he went in for surgery. “I can't brag enough about the service and treatment I received,” he says. “Kudos to all the medical services people there. They really cared.”

Fung, who lives in Steveston with his family, is also grateful for the care his ailing father and father-in-law received and saw firsthand how corporate and personal donations help benefit new equipment for Richmond Hospital. “A lot of people lack understanding of how much money government provides to the hospital. I think naturally people think it is all funded by the government.”

“With the donation that we provide, we know that under the stewardship of Richmond Hospital Foundation the funds will be used wisely. Whether it is a dollar, whether it is $10,000, it will benefit patients...I think my personal experience helped me to understand the importance of donations.”

Sun Life Financial has 90 Financial Centres across Canada, including five other Financial Centres in the Lower Mainland. Fung’s office in Burnaby has one of the most ethnically diverse Financial Centres with advisors speaking 23 languages in total. Sun Life Financial aims to be a global leader in wealth management and protection and its success depends on the well-being of the communities it serves, including its local health care. “I believe we are a holistic global financial services organization,” Fung says. “We go way beyond insurance for our clients. We help our clients achieve their financial security in their lifetime. And we want our communities to be healthy.”
