Bringing Chinese and Canadian culture together in the film industry, this year’s Canada Golden Maple Film Festival is scheduled to hold its awards and closing ceremony in Richmond.
The event, an international film festival supported by all three levels of government and by the Chinese government, aims to help spread “Chinese culture through films to the North American audience” and promote “a greater understanding of Chinese culture,” according to the River Rock’s website.
An opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21, with the closing ceremony in Richmond on Monday, Sept. 24 at the River Rock Casino where 42 awards will be given in six different categories: cinema film, short film, online film, documentary film, musical film and Chinese short film screenplay.
Throughout the festival, guests will attend conferences, discussion forums workshops and networking events. This year's guest list includes China's famous film star and calligraphy artist, Tielin Zhang.
The festival’s judges are a team of directors, screenwriters, special effects experts, critics, filmmakers and related professionals from Canada and the U.S.
