One individual was arrested following a raid Friday afternoon at a Richmond home.
RCMP officers were combing the scene Friday night — in the 10000-block of Seamount Drive — as part of an ongoing investigation.
Cpl. Stephanie Ashton said about 30 officers from the organized crime unit and the Lower Mainland’s emergency response team approached the home just after 3 p.m. Friday and are continuing to search the premises.
“Out of an abundance of caution, investigators determined it was necessary to evacuate residents from the immediate vicinity of the home being searched,” Ashton said.
Up to six homes, including a daycare, have been evacuated at this time. Ashton said residents would not be allowed back into their homes until late Friday evening.
Upon executing the search warrant, Mounties located one individual inside the home who was then taken into custody for questioning. Ashton said others were also questioned but it’s unclear how they are connected to the raid.
She confirmed actions taken by police on Friday are a part of an extensive ongoing investigation, and that the raid had been planned out in detail.
No further details are available at this time and it was unclear how long the search was going to take.
The home is located in a residential area just off No. 5 Road, near Steveston Highway.
