Steveston Highway and a southbound lane on Highway 99 near the Massey Tunnel had to be closed Monday afternoon after a car lost control and knocked off a guard rail on the Steveston Highway overpass.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. and left a 10-foot section of rail dangling perilously over Highway 99.

Both the overpass and one lane of the 99 below were closed for several hours to allow safety crews to work. It’s not clear why the driver of the crashed car lost control.
