Zach Jackson and the Hugh Boyd Trojans are taking their season to B.C. Place Stadium after a playoff win over College Heights last weekend.

Richmond high school football coaches Bill and Bruce Haddow will conclude their four decade careers at B.C. Place Stadium. Exactly when will be determined over the next three weekends.

The brothers will lead the Hugh Boyd Trojans into their provincial “AA” quarter-final game on Saturday at noon against the Abbotsford Panthers.

Boyd advanced to the final eight with 49-14 wild card victory over Prince George’s College Heights in snowy Vernon.

The Trojans jumped out to a 28-6 lead and cruised to victory. Running back Austin Berry led the way with three touchdowns. Quarterback Byron Ruvalcaba fired TD passes to Zach Jackson and Isaiah Daniels. Special teams also factored in on the scoring as Austin Galbraith returned the second half kickoff for a major and Tomo Takeuchi recovered Coleton Forrester’s punt block for another touchdown.

It was Boyd’s second trip of the season to the Interior city after taking on Vernon in pre-season play back in September. This time they were greeted by a snow covered field.

It will be perfect conditions at B.C. Place where the Trojans take on the Eastern Conference champion and No. 3 ranked Panthers.

Boyd will need a big afternoon from its run defence. Panthers tailback Samel Uko ranks second in the province in rushing, averaging 172 yards per game with 21 touchdowns.

End Zone…

The Trojans were well-represented on the Western AA Conference All-Star Team with six selections. They include: Kameron Porbeni (defensive line), Ryan Jensen (linebacker), Isaiah Daniels (defensive back), Dayton Williamson (offensive line), Austin Berry (flex) and Reace Mok (running back). Tickets for Saturday’s game are $10 pre-sale or $15 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased through the school.
