Top seeds in form at RCC Futures

Men's pro tennis event continues over weekend at Richmond Country Club

No. 5 seed Peter Polansky will meet defending champion Phillip Bester Friday in quarter-final action at the Richmond Country Club.

Five of the top eight seeds are through to Friday’s quarter-finals at the $25,000 Canada F3 Futures pro men’s tennis tournament at the Richmond Country Club.
Defending champion and No. 2 seed Phillip Bester cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Michael Genender on Thursday. That will put Bester up against his doubles partner and No. 5 seed Peter Polansky in an all-Canadian centre court match-up scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday. Polansky advanced to the final eight by rolling past Alex Galarneau 6-2, 6-0.
The other 11 a.m. quarter-final match-up will see a pair of unseeded players do battle as American Raymond Sarmiento takes on Great Britain’s Farris Fathi Gosea. Sarimento advanced with a 6-3, 6-0 upset of No. 8 seed Edan Leshem. Gosea rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Gonzales Austin.
Gosea had opened the tournament with a tiebreaker win over No. 3 seed Blake Mott.
Meanwhile, top seed Jason Fung from Chinese Taipei continued his strong play with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Alexander Day. Fung will meet American Alexios Halebian who surprised No. 7 seed Dennis Nevolo 6-3, 7-6.
The other quarter-final match-up sees No. 4 Finn Tearney take on No. 6 Filip Peliwo.
Admission for Friday’s action is $5. The tournament continues Saturday with the semi-finals at 11 a.m. The final goes at noon Sunday.
