Rowers shine at Brentwood Regatta

Delta Deas earns gold in men's junior "B" four event

Delta Deas Rowing Club’s junior rowers had a great showing at the annual Brentwood Regatta.
The event, held at the elite Brentwood College School on Vancouver Island, is one of the largest and most prestigious junior regattas in the Pacific Northwest. While windy conditions created some challenges for those racing, the Junior ‘B’ (17 years or under) Delta Deas crew of Jon Hodgins, Stuart Velestuk, Peter Nederend, Logan Krezan and coxswain Genevieve Salahor earned gold in the men’s 4X; while Hodgins and Velestuk also earned a silver in the Junior ‘B’ men’s double. Not a small feat when racing against large clubs, schools and many nationally ranked teams from the U.S.
The athletes’success led to DDRC earning first place in efficiency for the Junior ‘B’ Categories, while the entire DDRC team tied for eight in overall efficiency out of 32 clubs participating.
Efficiency awards recognize a club’s overall performance relative to its size and number of entries. Given there were 32 clubs competing, Delta’s overall efficiency score was impressive.
The juniors are looking forward to more great performances at Shawnigan Lake and Delta’s own Scholastic Regatta at the end of May.
Junior learn-to-row is starting soon. Interested would-be rowers are invited to contact Delta Deas Rowing Club at deltadeas@gmail.com or 604-946-3074.
