After being among the pre-tournament favourites the past few years, Richmond Chris Crisologo has broken through at the B.C. Amateur.

Chris Crisologo can now add provincial men’s champion to his ever-growing golf resumé.

The 22-year-old from Richmond, who is fresh off an All-American career at Simon Fraser University, captured the 116th edition of the B.C. Amateur at the Rivershore Golf Links in Kamloops.

After a fourth place finish at Morgan Creek a year ago, the pre-tournament favourite took control this time with a sizzling 7-under 65 in the third round. He was 6-under on the back nine alone — capped by an eagle on the par-5 18th.

That gave Crisologo a 1-shot lead heading into Friday’s final round which saw him produce a solid 69, with just one bogey, to finish two strokes ahead of Smithers’ Kaleb Gorbahn. He had opened the championship with rounds of 68-74.

Despite being a fixture on the leaderboard during his senior season at SFU, his last victory was seven months ago at the prestigious South American Amateur Championship in Argentina.

He headed to Kamloops coming off a four-week tour of Europe where he played in a number of tournaments as a member of Golf Canada’s national men’s amateur team.

His busy summer schedule will include the Canadian Amateur in Duncan where he will also lead B.C. in the Willingdon Cup team competition. Next week he is headed to The Olympic Club in San Francisco for the Pacific Coast Amateur.

Other Richmond scores from the B.C. Amateur included Keith Ng (73-73-76-77) finishing tied for 41st, while Zaahidali Nathu (73-77-77-76) was 55th.
