The 21st annual Steveston Icebreaker 8km run/walk will take place Sunday, Jan. 21.

Registration is underway for the 21st edition of the Steveston Icebreaker 8km Run/Walk and organizers are busy continuing to build on its popularity.

This year’s race is Sunday, Jan. 21 with a 9 a.m. start time. Already the opening event of the Lifestages Lower Mainland Road Race Series, the Steveston Icebreaker is now part of the B.C. Super Series and recognized as the 8km provincial championship race. There will be medals for the top three finishers of each five year increments

While the new status is expected to attract even more elite runners anxious to tackle the fast and flat course, the heart of the Icebreaker is the fact it’s a community event for all ages with plenty to do. There will be even more post-race food options at the Steveston Community Centre. A new twist is an expo that will feature everything from information groups to shoe sponsors.

The Steveston Icebreaker serves as a major fundraiser for the Minoru Park-based Kajaks Track and Field Club.

The event is always welcoming more sponsors on board. For information contact race director Jared Hulme at kajaksroadrace@gmail.com.
