Camryn Rogers' collegiate career is off to a record breaking start at Cal-Berkeley

It was one Richmond hammer throw standout breaking another’s record at the University of Cal-Berkeley.

Earlier this month Camryn Rogers continued her outstanding freshman season with the Golden Bears by winning the hammer throw event at the 124th annual Big Meet between Cal and Stanford. Her third throw of 65.28 metres established a new meet and school record. That was set back in 2002 by Jennifer Joyce who enjoyed a decorated career at the Pac 12 school and was inducted to the Richmond Sports Wall of Fame back in November.

Rogers, a Kajaks standout under coach Garrett Collier, also re-set her own U20 Canadian record with the throw. The McMath graduate earned a lucrative full-ride scholarship deal to Cal.

Rogers’ win wasn’t enough as Stanford won the women’s competition 110-47.

The season continues with meets at Stanford and UCLA over the next couple of weeks.
