Richmond Martial Arts’ fourth annual Break-A-Thon fundraiser once again proved to be a big success.
Held at Lansdowne Mall, the event raised funds to support child sexual assault victims in Bolivia. Approximately 300 boards were broken using various Tae Kwon Do techniques including hammer fist, spin hook and flying side kicks. Students gathered pledges totaling $1,510.
Special guests included Mayor Malcolm Brodie, martial arts professional Tyler Weaver (featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show), Martial Arts for Justice founder Master Dean Siminoff, International Justice Mission BC representative Krystle Yeung and Miss Vancouver’s Christine White.
Lansdowne Mall generously donated the use of their space and Bushido Martial Arts and Fight Gear Supply gave a donation towards the boards.
Since this initiative started in 2013, it has raised over $100,000 nationally with schools participating from right across Canada.
All funds raised are donated directly to International Justice Mission (www.ijm.ca), which currently has ongoing operations in Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Peru.
