The Editor,

The cowardly attack on 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai and another girl from Mingora, Pakistan has been condemned worldwide.

The assassination attempt on Malala was in response to her position on education for girls and women's rights.

Three years ago, she wrote a diary for the BBC about life under the Taliban.

The courage of this young girl to fight for the right to an education was looked upon by the Taliban as the promotion of western culture and her goal for education rights as an "obscenity."

Malala's compassion and bold optimism is in stark contrast to the brutality and utter violence of the Taliban.

The Taliban did not hesitate to take credit for the shootings and vowed to kill her. Her family has been supporting her in defying the Taliban's threats.

Pakistan's army chief has condemned the vicious attack and the "twisted ideology" of the Taliban.

Malala is everyone's daughter and she is every parent's hope and dream for the future of our daughters around the world.
