Dear Editor,

Sunday Sept. 17 was an inspirational day at Garry Point Park as 400 plus participants and volunteers joined together to honour Terry Fox’s legacy at the annual run/walk in his name. We are proud to report that over $18,000 was raised for cancer research.

We are thankful to the many individuals, groups and businesses that collectively made this possible.

Our dedicated and hardworking committee members: Maria Medic, John Hopkins, Kishore Nair, Peter Mitchell, Bill McNulty, Marla Jampolsky, Harley Rollins, George Agnew, Kevin Lainchbury and Lisa Ruskey worked tirelessly to make sure everything went smoothly.

We had an incredible team of volunteers including a remarkable group of students from the Junior and Senior Leadership Program at McMath secondary.

We would also like to thank all the community sponsors who supported this year’s Terry Fox Run.

In addition, we were fortunate to have Richmond’s very own Olympian Evan Dunfee with us to speak words of inspiration and join everyone on the route. This was a thrill for many!  Mayor Malcolm Brodie was on hand to start the run and declared Sunday, Sept. 17 as Terry Fox Day in Richmond.

A heartfelt thank you to all the participants who joined us on this day in contribution to Terry’s dream of a world free from cancer. The compassion, hope and sense of community of everyone involved allows his incredible legacy to strengthen and grow.

The spirit of Terry Fox has a home in our wonderful community.
