Letter: Little gained by tree removal

Dear Editor, Re: “Park trees slated for removal,” News Oct. 9. I am writing this letter because I can’t let the city cut down the trees in Steveston Town Square Park. The park has been there for more than 25 years and has been loved by many.

Dear Editor,

Re: “Park trees slated for removal,” News Oct. 9.

I am writing this letter because I can’t let the city cut down the trees in Steveston Town Square Park. The park has been there for more than 25 years and has been loved by many.

I myself have sat down under the very same trees they want to cut down during the past Canada Day. It’s been a nice spot for me to get some shade during a hot summer day. Many people have connections to those trees that can’t be replaced by the ones they want to put in.

Plus, in the article it stated that when the old trees get cut down the one healthy one will be affected horribly because of the grade change. I believe it’s too much loss for what this town has to gain.

This community already has plenty of diversity, and we already have a Japanese-themed area by the community centre.

Although the Japanese garden would be a great addition, I bet they could find a way to do it without removing the trees. I think this project is a frivolous use of money and I don’t think it should be done.
