Following recent sexual misconduct allegations against Morgan Freeman, TransLink has stated it will suspend the actor's voice announcements on transit.

“In light of information we’ve learned through news stories this morning of serious allegations against actor Morgan Freeman, TransLink has decided to pause his voice announcements as part of a VISA ad campaign on the transit system. We will be in touch with VISA to discuss further,” TransLink said via email.

On Thursday, CNN reported that eight women have come forward with allegations against Freeman of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour.

TransLink had announced on Tuesday that Metro Vancouver commuters would soon hear the voice of Morgan Freeman on select buses and SkyTrain stations promoting TransLink’s new “Tap to Pay” feature which allows riders to pay their transit fares using contactless Visa and Mastercard credit cards and Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

TransLink is the first Canadian transit authority to offer credit card and mobile payment throughout its system, which has 50 million monthly riders.
