Tourism Richmond has named Nancy Small as the new chief executive officer of the non-profit organization, beginning July 23.

“We felt Nancy was an excellent fit for the CEO role at Tourism Richmond, due to her passion for tourism and her proven track record as a strategic marketing and sales leader,” said Eda Koot, chair of Tourism Richmond.

“Her experience at Tourism Burnaby building community partnerships, leading campaigns and product development as well as being a clear communicator will be an asset to the execution of our strategic plan and continued growth of Tourism Richmond’s brand.”

Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Small has worked all over the world – including stints in The Netherlands, Toronto and Sydney, Australia.

With an extensive background in strategic planning, brand management and marketing strategy, Small’s experience encompasses various senior-level executive roles in the retail sector, with advertising and creative agencies, and in the technology industry.

Small most recently held the executive director role at Tourism Burnaby, leading a team of dynamic professionals and building Burnaby’s tourism product. During her tenure as executive director, she also participated in several trade and business development delegations to China, South Korea and Japan and welcomed many international delegations to Burnaby.

“The tourism sector in Richmond has incredible momentum and its positive economic impact is felt across the city,” said Small.

“I look forward to working with Tourism Richmond’s team of amazing professionals with the strategic plan as our roadmap. These are very exciting times in our industry and Richmond is poised for continued success.”

Tourism Richmond embarked on a search for a new CEO with the announcement of Bruce Okabe’s departure in early 2018.

According to Tourism Richmond, an extensive recruitment campaign was conducted, with interest shown by top candidates from across Canada.
