RITE Richmond discloses financial contributions, mid-campaign

Five-person slate wants more open, transparent election process.

RITE Richmond took the unique step to post financial disclosures midway through the municipal election campaign.

It's part of the slate's code of ethics to bring transparency to the election process.

Typically, voters only get to see who backed which candidates after the election.

"With RITE Richmond, you will not have to wait until 2015 to find out who we are and who supports us," stated its website.

The party stated it will not accept large financial contributions from corporations.

Interestingly enough, some competitors have contributed to RITE because they left the slate for the Richmond Community Coalition.

As former members, Coun. Chak Au and trustee candidate Jonathan Ho of the Richmond Community Coalition both donated $150 to RITE in 2013 for this year's election. Federal Conservative Party member Kenny Chiu also made a $150 donation before leaving this year.

After those small details, RITE is largely funded by its own candidates.

RITE is running on a platform to protect farmland and the enviornment, ensure fiscal prudence, conserving neighbourhoods and public spaces and more engagement.
