This Saturday, Richmond secondary students are gearing up to show off iPad and iPhone apps they’ve spent 16 weeks developing.

The Game of Apps Showcase marks the end of a 16-week extracurricular program where more than 100 students from Richmond secondary schools worked in teams to develop apps. The program was competitive, and each team received coaching from professional app designers and developers.

“The kids are not only learning about coding, but they are also learning about how to work together, how to make a deadline, how to compromise with each other and how to problem-solve,” said Chris Loat, teacher consultant for technology with the Richmond School District in a press release.

At the March 3 showcase, teams will show off their final projects to the public including sharing pitch presentations, app demos, early prototypes, user testing results and source code.

The showcase, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free to attend and open to the public at the Brighouse library branch.
