The shocking shooting in Ikeas parking lot this week was targeted, but not gang-related, according to police.
Mounties raced to the stores underground parking lot in north Richmond around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday amid reports of gunfire.
No victims were found and the suspects were unknown.
Describing the shooting as brazen, Richmond RCMP said Thursday, after interviewing witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage, that the incident was targeted.
The intended target is known to police, however the incident was not gang related.
Police are currently combing over other evidence in an attempt to paint a fuller picture of what went down.
A dark green domestic minivan was seen fleeing the area immediately after the shooting and a description of the suspect(s) was also not available.
To say that this incident is very concerning is an understatement, said Cpl. Sherrdean Turley, media relations officer for Richmond RCMP.
Given the time of day and location, the total disregard of public safety is appalling.
Police are strongly urging witnesses or anyone that has information on this incident to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Mounties had cordoned off a large section of the covered lot after the shooting.
Around 6:30 p.m., officers were shining flashlights on the ceiling insulation, bits of which had fallen to the ground of the parkade, apparently looking for bullet entry points.
