Outspoken local campaigner Carol Day has emerged as a surprise runner in the race for Richmond-Steveston in next months B.C. election.
Day, a former school trustee who twice failed to win a seat on city council, announced Thursday she is running for the BC Conservatives in a bid to topple longtime Liberal incumbent John Yap.
Day, who has campaigned for years against the proposed jet fuel delivery plans, said it was high time Richmond had a change. We need stronger voice.
Ive already had people today telling me that theyre glad they now have a choice, said Day.
Its certainly time for a change in this riding.
Day said top of her agenda will be the jet fuel delivery proposal to YVR, adding that she cant believe Yap has still to take a position on.
Although shes been courted for the spot by the party since last summer, Day said she only decided three weeks ago to take the leap, a few days before Yap resigned from Cabinet in the wake of the ethnic voter scandal.
